Why Minion Costumes Are Such a Huge Hit

Minions! Who doesn't love Minions these days, right? Their popularity on film has translated to a great demand for Minion costumes for Halloween. They are a huge hit, everyone knows that. They probably are my most favorite animated characters, and yours, too, aren't they? It's no surprise. They are adorable. And by adorable I mean, "OH MY GOD, HOW CAN ANYTHING BE THAT ADORABLE?” There isn't a thing about the Minions that isn't lovable and huggable; from their yellow skin color and blue costumes, to their cute, big eyes filled with unadulterated innocence that can just melt your heart. Minions are the basic definition of the word 'adorable'. If you say that you don't get a sudden urge to pick up a Minion like a baby and play with it, then you are lying. It's very saddening to me that they are animated, and not real.

You may have seen the movies many times just to get a great laugh. The Minions were portrayed as side-kicks first in Despicable Me, released in 2010, then in their sequel, Despicable Me 2 in 2013. After seeing how many hearts the Minions had stolen worldwide, the creators gave them their own movie, "Minions," featuring them exclusively back in 2015. Since then, Minions have become loved all across the world, and so are their costumes. This is not even a topic for debate.

The remarkable thing about the Minions is that they are distinctive in their own way. No other animated character comes in mind when you're watching them as they absorb you into their own story line. That exactly is what makes them so special. No matter what costume or avatar they are portrayed in, they look delightful. Yes, even the creepy Stuart costume with a single eye on the face, or the Purple evil ones with their frizzy hair that spreads out like a mane.

Other than just looking cute, (and also weird at times), [as characters] Minions are very hard working, loyal, funny and helpful creatures with one caveat: They are also very impulsive and stubborn.  They are a lot like us humans; I personally feel that Minions' creator wanted to portray them like a fully functioning adults who haven’t lost their childishness. Isn't that great?

Now think about it - if the Minions are such a huge hit, why wouldn’t Minion costumes be? Who wouldn't want to dress up like a carefree Minion, and do crazy stuff like them? I honestly wouldn't have to think twice. I'd get in those yellow and blue costume overalls, wear those crazy big eye goggles and roam around like a Minion would--doing insane childish things.

Another crazy thing is that there literally is a whole army of them in the movies.and no two Minions are completely alike. Unless you’ve seen the movies, it would be easy to assume that only Bob, Stuart, Dave and Kevin exist.  Those are the main characters, after all, and those are the only characters that have costumes made after them (with the exception of the purple evil Minion costumes).  However, they are a vast species; hopefully we will see more of the extended Minion population in future films. The main Minions themselves are a family; they love to have fun, but even more than that, they love making fun of each other.

Talking about 'having fun', imagine how much fun it would be, dressing up in different Minion Costumes and communicating in Minion language to give everyone a handful of a laughter. You could have just as much fun as the Minions themselves with a little creativity and original Minion costumes.  Dressing up as a Minion, even if just for a day, is an escape from the monotony of the everyday routine.

The Minion world seems like it is all peaches and cream, but let’s not forget, there are Evil Minions too. So if you don't want to be one of the good yellow Minions, you can choose to be an evil Purple one. There are multiple options to represent these lovable creatures on Halloween. It doesn't even matter what age group you belong to. You can put on a Minion costume, forget everything you know, and act like an innocent child again; and trust me, , no one is going to judge you for being a little extra childish, especially on Halloween.

Minion costumes are such a huge hit because Minions are too. And since Minions are so lovable, people will be so intrigued to see you dressed up like one, that they may just join you by putting on a Minion costume themselves. So, just choose which Minion you want to be, put on that costume, and make people adore you just like they do the Minions.
