  • Will Spider-Man Ever Don His Costume from Infinity War in Future Films?

    top img

    By Esteban Cepero

Ever since Peter Parker (portrayed by Tom Holland) made his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans have long been craving to see Spider-Man's classic red and blue suit swing into action on-screen! Spider-Man was birthed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War and since then, there's been the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, a solo film, and Avengers: Infinity War where Spider-Man went up against the Mad Titan, Thanos. Next year, Spider-Man: Far From Home is also expected to have a summer release.

Spider-Man's costume has taken on a couple of different concepts throughout these films. At first, in Spider-Man's early days of being the famed web-slinger, wore a homemade costume with a pair of black goggles but as shown in Captain America: Civil War,  Spider-Man switched over to the suit that Tony Stark specially designed for him. Spider-Man's new official costume greatly portrays amazing comic accuracy in following Steve Ditko's design for Spider-Man's costume in Amazing Fantasy #15. At the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tony Stark introduced a suit to Parker that made fans jumped out of the seats, the Iron Spider costume. Spider-Man declined the suit from Stark but eventually, under certain circumstances, wore the Iron-Spider costume for the first time in Avengers: Infinity War. That very moment left Marvel fans in awe and extremely reminiscent of the Iron-Spider costume in the comics.

So what factors would exactly play in Spider-Man keeping the suit? The Iron-Spider costume is the most advanced Spider-Man costume ever created and from what was seen in the film, it offers Peter Parker an enormous advantage when going up against incredibly strong enemies. The spider-legs combined with the advanced technology completely surpasses that of Spider-Man's original costume in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Though, when Spider-Man kept his costume from Captain America: Civil War, Tony Stark placed a child-lock on it. It was then in Spider-Man: Homecoming when Parker hacked his Spider-Man costume and unlocked all of its abilities. The film had a lot of tones of responsibility, especially when looking at the fact that Spider-Man is only a freshman in high school. Tony Stark eventually trusted him with his suit at the end of the film and after the Iron-Spider costume came in the picture, after the dust settles, let's discuss it's possible reappearance.

With great power comes great responsibility

Tony Stark considers Spider-Man to be similar to a son for him and after their interactions together, Stark even wants a kid. Because of this, it's not hard to imagine why Stark is careful and strict with Parker. Whatever danger Spider-Man is placed or whatever villain he goes up against, Tony Stark will always hold himself accountable for Spider-Man's actions and his safety. After Spider-Man's heart-wrenching death in Avengers: Infinity War, it's already certain that it will consume Stark in his vengeance towards Thanos.

It's speculated that Spider-Man will return from the dead along with a lot of the other Avengers that were removed from existence from Thanos. When this hopefully happens, Spider-Man will go back to swinging around in Queens but we could see Stark take the suit from Spider-Man due to its extreme abilities and Stark's fear of losing Peter. As astonishing as the Iron-Spider costume is, is it really meant for Queens? Spider-Man doesn't always go up against godly and unearthly villains so why would he need a costume solely meant for that?

    Spider-Man gives the costume back

When Tony Stark first presented Spider-Man with the Iron-Spider costume, he not only offered the costume to him but also a position amongst the ranks of the Avengers. Peter Parker didn't take much time in making his decision as he said "no" to Stark. This came as quite of a shock but he made the point that someone has to look out for the little guy and he just wants to stay on the ground for the time being. Tony Stark even offered him a place to live if he were to accept the offer. Spider-Man didn't bother to take the suit because he knew it was meant for something way bigger than him and he just wants to enjoy his time in high school.

Knowing this, even though Spider-Man was deemed to be an Avenger in Avengers: Infinity War, after the universal fight with Thanos, is over, he may return the suit to Stark and just remain your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. This won't come as a surprise since again, he believes he isn't fully ready to be in major fights the Avengers involve themselves with consistently. Plus, he's also still a kid and has his Aunt May that is his legal guardian and someone he cares about too deeply to abandon.

    A wardrobe is created

In comics, Spider-Man is known to have an extensive wardrobe of a variety of Spider-Man costumes. Spider-Man's costumes are selected based on the villain he's going up against. Spider-Man created a costume that is immune to electrical shocks to face Electro and another costume is his stealth costume meant for being extra sneaky when infiltrating bad guys. As of right now, Spider-Man owns three costumes, his homemade Spider-Man costume, the Spider-Man costume Stark gave him in Captain America: Civil War, and the Iron-Spider costume used in Avengers: Infinity War.

From the set photos that were released from the newest Spider-Man film in production Spider-Man: Far From Home, they suggest that he will be gaining two new suits. His regular suit is going to have a bit of a black color twist to it and it also looks like we're going to see the stealth Spider-Man costume. By the looks of this, Spider-Man is very well on his way to having a whole wardrobe filled with different Spider-Man costumes and it may very well also have the Iron-Spider costume.

It's going to be intriguing to see what steps Marvel is going to take in the future of Spider-Man films and how they're going to introduce and utilize new Spider-Man costumes. Our questions won't be answered until the new Avengers is released in 2019 and with the release of the new Spider-Man film on July 5, 2019.
