  • Spider-Man: Homecoming Vulture Costume Concept Art Released

    By Esteban Cepero

A lot was revealed at the San Diego Comic Con, mainly by both DC and Marvel. DC seems to be taking the cake after showing two first looks of the upcoming films Justice League and Wonder Woman. Marvel didn’t want to reveal much footage for upcoming films next year as they’re still going through major production but did in fact, show a trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming. Sadly, the trailer wasn’t released to the public as Justice League and Wonder Woman were; but hopefully we’ll get it soon. Other than the new Spider-Man film, a second trailer for Doctor Strange was shown; which the film is being released this year. Marvel is of course, also famously known for their astonishing Netflix superhero series. They definitely built the hype for all the new series coming out as this is what they’ve given fans: a small teaser of The Defenders, an Iron Fist trailer, and a full Luke Cage trailer. As a collaboration with FX, Marvel is also coming out with the new X-Men-based T.V. show Legion. Marvel seems to be successful with their shows but are being very careful with releasing anything(mostly footage) of 2017 films; teasing with some information and new logos. Both DC and Marvel really fought against each other at SDCC, but the winner of this battle is all up to the fans. There is still more to come from both sides.

Teasing costumes for either a villain or a superhero is key for building the anticipation of a film. DC obviously did it, but Marvel is giving a small taste of what to expect with new concept art. The concept art is of the new film that actually just begun production, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Instead of releasing the trailer to fans, Marvel gave everybody an inside look of what we could possibly see on-screen. We can’t really complain because of how young the production is of the film, so we have to appreciate what we’ve been given. What we’ve been given is a first look at the possible costume of the iconic villain Vulture.

We can’t get too excited now, this is only “concept art” so what we’re looking at is variation of Vulture’s costume. The costume is very mechanical and some insane technology built into it. With the Vulture being brought to life on the big screen, Marvel definitely needed to give his costume more of a modern touch. Such as, improving the tech behind it. If we saw the original Vulture’s costume in the comics, it wouldn’t exactly make sense in the real world. Here’s what I mean.

In the comics, the Vulture literally built wings into his costume to help him take flight. It makes some sense in comics because he has superhuman strength which could help him with flying. This costume isn’t something meant to be brought to life on-screen, as it would probably look a bit weird. It’s a costume meant to stay in the comics. So Marvel is currently thinking of a way to add a new touch to Vulture’s costume.

As we see in the concept art, Marvel is look for a technological and advanced engineering take on the costume. It would make a whole lot of sense since Adrian Toomes(the Vulture)is an absolute genius in the fields of electronics and mechanical engineering. Everyone can guess that such an advance costume is of his own design. The technology is advanced but even a bit simple. It seems that on the Vulture’s wings in his costume, there’s propellers built in them to help him fly and could be using his own strength to work the wings. As for his feet, the Vulture smartly designed claws to help clench Spider-Man or any other person and objects. The only flaw in this costume could actually be the propellers, for how easy it would be for Spider-Man to take him down. Depending on how powerful the propellers, Spider-Man could easily shoot a web at them and jam the Vulture’s wings. It’s just too simple and we all want to see an epic iconic fight go down between the two.

There’s still more to be released as Spider-Man: Homecoming is swinging into theaters on July 7, 2017!
