Is not in South Miami at all.  Based on this headline, you were probably expecting this entry to be about some small mom and pop shop in the heart of South Miami that turns into haunted house every Halloween, or something along those lines.  While that would be a touching small business success story, there is just one issue: There is no such South Miami costume store.  You’ll be lucky if you get sucked into the black hole that is every corporate chain party retailer that sells limited stock of costumes for a limited amount of time every year—September and October.  Costume shopping in South Miami has become a dreadful task, especially for those last minute Halloweeners who hop from store to store on the day of.   

One of the most popular questions we get at our call center during the Halloween season—and even year-round—is “How do I get there from South Miami?”  Seriously, how is it that one of the most commercialized areas of South Miami Dade County does not have a staple Halloween costume store?  There is Sunset Place Mall, Dadeland is not too far (at the border of Kendall and South Miami), the Grove is a short drive away, and there’s whatever Coral Gables has going on.  What’s even worse is, all of these places are Halloween hotspots!  Dadeland and Sunset Place host Halloween trick-or-treating events for children, Coconut Grove hosts one of the biggest Halloween parties in Miami-Dade and Coral Gables has Halloween on the Mile.  So why do so many people take the trip to West Kendall to shop at Wonder Costumes?  It is a shame that South Miamians have to take a trip to shop for costumes, but we are proud to be the solution for the shortage of costume stores in South Miami.
