Game of Thrones Costumes for Show Fans This Halloween

If I told you we were living in a Golden Age of Television, I wouldn’t be lying.

In the past decade, we’ve been treated to some truly fantastic television, with a quality that is right on par with – and at times exceeding – cinema.

But out of all that glorious television, one show has stood out the most – it’s Game of Thrones.

Now Breaking Bad and Mad Men were fine shows, and I love a good Walter White costume or a Don Draper costume as much as anybody, but try as they might, Game of Thrones wins in popularity and it’s not hard to see why – the great cast, an intriguing storyline, and some truly fantastic production values (in the vein of Harry Potter) make I television to die for.

And did I say production values?

The grand props and fancy costumes are so popular that you can find recreations anywhere, anytime, most of all on Halloween!

Not since the advent of The Boy Who Lived has any popular franchise flooded the costume market with props, costumes and miscellaneous paraphernalia.

Of course, one downside to having a vast amount of props and costumes in the market is deciding which one to go with, and that is what I’m here to help with!

Fashioned similarly to my other lists talking about other costumes I thought would be popular this Halloween, this list includes the costumes and accessories I think would be the best buy for the Westerosi.

Without further ado, let’s begin!

1. Daenerys Targaryen

Come on, we both knew this was going to be the top costume on the list!

How could it not?

Daeny has always been a likable character, and with her plotline finally moving forward as the show enters its final stretch, you’d do well to invest in a Daeny costume.

An yes, it helps that she has gone a rather dramatic costume change over the seasons – Dothraki costumes are all good, but there’s nothing that fits a queen better than a traditional regal costume.

And oh, Queen she is – her full (and extremely long) title reminds you that all the time.

2. Dragon Props

Okay, I’m technically cheating here since dragon props don’t exactly count as costumes, but with all the Daeny costumes that are going to flood the streets this Halloween, you should stand out with one of these.

Just put one on your shoulder, and you’d be surprised to see just how much it accentuates your costume.

3. Sons of the Harpy Masks

Sons of the Harpy were an intriguing addition to the Game of Thrones universe.

In addition to providing Daeny a real challenge to deal with throughout the season, they made for some fine looking soldiers.

Their costumes might have been perfunctory had it not been for their masks.

It’s these masks that lent their costumes some real personality, and they will lend some personality to yours.

The Sons of the Harpy were heavy on symbolism, and you could be too, if you choose to put a real world spin on it, and decide to pair this mask with a modern day attire!

4. White Walker Masks

For creatures that are supposed to be colder than ice, White Walkers sure are a hot topic of conversation right now. By this point, it is all but evident that the show’s endgame is  going to be the war against the White Walkers, and as the speculations and the fan theories munt up, so do the costume sales—because man are White Walkers cool looking!

The Night’s King makes for a chilling costume (no pun intended) and even for someone who’s not a Game of Thrones fan, these costumes and masks have an old school horror aesthetic to them (what did I tell you about the show’s amazing production design?) that just cannot go unappreciated.

5. The Westeros Common Folk 

It’s easy to think of Game of Thrones as a show that focuses only on its Kings, Queens and Pawns in its elaborate chess-like storytelling, and to some extent, that wouldn’t be wrong, but the show’s universe is rich, and feels lived in because of the attention paid to even rendering the extras in the show’s unique visual style.

This extends to the show’s costumes, and if you’re unlucky enough to find your favorite character’s costume sold out, you could still pick up one of the Westerosi Bourgeois costumes, and not be mistaken for someone who wandered off of the set of Ben Hur or Warcraft.

If that’s not good design, I don’t know what is.
