  • Daredevil's Original Costume Returns In Season 3

    top img

    By Esteban Cepero

Marvel fans are left in distress at the moment after Marvel announced that the highly-loved Netflix show Daredevil is canceled after only three seasons. It was announced that Disney is going to release their new streaming service known as "Disney+" so fans and many others automatically assume that Daredevil, along with the other canceled Netflix shows will continue. Though, knowing the tones behind Marvel's Netflix shows, they may not be suitable for Disney's family-friendly image. Aside from this, Daredevil went out with an absolute bang, achieving a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes for the newest season.

Season three of Daredevil felt like an absolute dramatic action-packed psychological thriller with dark tones of insanity, sanity, fear, redemption, religion, and trust. The story-line was extremely well-written and while this final season of Daredevil was amazing, the factors that affected the overall emotion of the season felt a bit weird. Daredevil has taken many turns since the first season. In season one, Matt Murdock along with his best friend, Foggy, were in the early days of operating their own law firm Nelson and Murdock. When they met Karen Page, she joined the team and they all became an iconic group. By the second and third season, they all disbanded and went their own way as they all discovered Matt's secret identity.

One iconic portion of Daredevil that a large majority of fans loved was Daredevil's red costume which made its first appearance towards the end of season one and became his main costume throughout the Defenders and second season of Daredevil. In season three, fans didn't get to see much of this as Daredevil resorted to his original black costume, inspired by the Frank Miller comics. Daredevil's costume holds a special kind of feeling to it when it makes an appearance in a scene. Daredevil's costume helps emphasize the "Devil of Hell's Kitchen" aspect of the character. It felt odd seeing Daredevil go throughout the season without being 100% in his red costume but it worked perfectly and here's why:

    Rising from the dirt

The third season of Daredevil, as Matt Murdock took shelter in his childhood church, it held many tones of a search for redemption and the struggles of how to pick yourself up from the very bottom. This is clearly displayed by Daredevil in his brutal recovery period in the beginning to regain his senses and skills that had been affected by his injuries he gained from the fight against the Hand. Daredevil is almost prepared to completely give up on his life of fighting crime until he hears that Wilson Fisk is out of prison. This pushes him to keep training until he's 100%. Though, Daredevil faces a new enemy that has skills beyond his, Bullseye.

Throughout Daredevil's journey to redeem himself and stop Fisk, he dawns the Frank Miller inspired black costume. Daredevil's costume holds a dark tone to it as everything feels out of balance with Fisk out of prison, Murdock having a strain in his relationships with his friends, and him living in the church instead of his apartment. In order to defeat Fisk, Daredevil had to be at his endgame, meaning he had to risk a lot to take him down. Even though Daredevil's skills and confidence were regained, he still didn't wear his suit and this is another factor that greatly affected season 3.

    Imposter

While Daredevil was hiding away in his church, Wilson Fisk, as he was plotting away, decided to stir up controversy and stain Daredevil's name. He gave Dexter (Bullseye) and made him attack the New York Bulletin, killing someone that was at risk of exposing Fisk on tape. Not only was Matt Murdock stuck in hiding but his alias as Daredevil was completely and violently destroyed which took an interesting, dark turn. After the attack on the New York Bulletin with Bullseye in Daredevil's costume and further attacks that followed, it's hard to imagine how Daredevil could come back into the public eye.

Bullseye held onto Daredevil's costume until the very end when him, Fisk, and the real Daredevil faced off in a three way fight. The FBI made it official that the man in Daredevil's costume wasn't Daredevil at all. Even with this information public, who knows if Matt Murdock would ever want to put on the Daredevil costume again after all the events that transpired.

    Ending on a light note

Numerous amounts of Marvel fans were sad to hear the news that Daredevil was canceled after season 3 and many believe it was completely uncalled for. It's hard to speculate what would've happened if a fourth season were to be released. The possibility of it was teased at the very end with Bullseye's surgery. All in all, Daredevil's costume played an integral role in season 3 with the direction that it was taking. It would've been amazing to see Daredevil wear the costume one last time before it's unexpected cancellation but the show ended amazingly.

Matt, Foggy, and Karen restored their amazing friendship and Foggy introduced the idea of all of them beginning their own law firm together. Their future is something that fans were hoping to see more of and there's no telling if the show is truly done. Disney+ will soon be launched and it's extremely unpredictable if Disney would make the decision of reviving the canceled Netflix shows, including Daredevil on their streaming service. Who knows what will happen, but hopefully we haven't seen the last of the Devil of Hell's Kitchen!
