Godzilla Stomps Into Theaters
by Valentina Franco
Wondercostumes.com loves monster costumes! Godzilla has been an iconic franchise since 1954. Even after all this time there are still new installments into the series. This Friday, May 31st Godzilla: The King of Monsters is set to release in theaters. This Godzilla is set as a sequel to the 2014 hit reboot Godzilla. The movie will take place during an incoming apocalyptic fight between Godzilla and Ghidorah the three-headed monster. The trailers are shaping up to be beyond epic and with a 200 million dollar budget we can expect some extremely true to life special effects. The new Godzilla will also feature other titans like Mothra, who has appeared in other Godzilla features such as Mothra vs. Godzilla and Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster, where Mothra was able to convince Godzilla to help Japan by defeating Ghidorah.
Rodan will also be coming back to join the fight and of course the main villain seems to be Ghidorah rising once more. Godzilla has an interesting premise, since its beginnings in 1954 Godzilla has gone through some changes. Some of the most iconic Godzilla scenes are him rampaging the streets of Japan, and he was created to showcase and recall the horrors of war, specifically the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. However, as the series progressed and new villains were introduced Godzilla became the protector of Earth, along with Morthra who became known as the protector of humanity.
Godzilla is a concept which many seem enraptured by. Particularly kids! Hands down the most enthusiastic over dressing up as the king of all monsters. The giant Godzilla terrorizes a city, kills, and destroys without care while humans are helpless to stop it. Then humans work together to save the day or to figure out how to become allies with the monster. Furthermore, there is the interesting dynamic that the monsters are man-made, a sort of cautionary tale to humans “playing God”.
We see these tropes clearly in most of the Godzilla movies with all of the titans originating from, or eventually reconned into being, due to man’s meddling in nuclear weaponry and radiation. There have been other movies and franchises that have taken to this lesson of being careful with technology, like the Jurassic Park and Jurassic world movies. Man brings these animals back from extinction that we could never hope to control. Then when the dinosaurs like the T-Rex or the Velociraptor get free, man has to deal with those consequences.
Then in Jurassic World, they take it a step further, by having the villains be these big scientists that really start to play God with their DNA alterations of the dinosaurs to make them into war weapons. And if you’re trying to let loose like the Jurassic World dinos this halloween, you should definitely check out our T-Rex inflatable costume or our Triceratops Baby Costume. Whatever your monster costume needs, WonderCostumes.com is there to provide top quality costumes at budget friendly prices.
Both the Jurassic Park and Godzilla series have these interesting themes regarding the dangers of war, with Jurassic World being a little more direct about it. But the Godzilla themes particularly so, with the very real radiation problems Japan faced around when the first movie was created, to have turned a monster which originally was destructive into something that then turns and protects earth.
These movies main purpose is to entertain, but like all forms of storytelling, usually have other things to say underneath that. Enjoy seeing Godzilla: The King of the Monsters!
