Captain America’s costume is legendary! The 1941 comic Captain America is the start to our hero’s illustrious career, and one of the most memorable pieces of Captain America is his costume, which symbolizes his respect and profound love of America, as well as his own virtues of pride and honor. This is where WonderCostumes.com comes in when you're looking for quality and affordable costumes. We are the number one place on the web for your costume needs.
In 1941, a writer by the name Joe Simons and artist Jack Kirby created an iconic character that would be remembered for decades to come. This character is known as “Captain America” and his human alter ego, “Steve Rogers” to comic book readers around the world. Steve Rogers made his first debut as Captain America in March, 1941 and the comic became a major success, engraving the sight of Captain America’s signature costume and shield into the public’s mind. Before Steve Rogers became the famed Captain America he had been a rejected army enlistee because of his body size and personal medical problems, while his friend, Bucky Barns, known as Winter Soldier enlisted and was accepted. This didn't stop Steve Rogers to keep trying, applying many times, and even lying to try to get in, so much as his love for his country and desire to be one of its defenders. He failed and failed again until Dr. Abraham Erskine a German scientist who worked for the US government noticed him at an enlisting center in a fair, and decided to give Steve the chance to become one of America's greatest soldiers.
After he was selected, Steve Rogers attended boot camp in order to pass a series of test, but he didn't exactly fit in with all the other soldiers. The other soldiers were big, strong, and tough, while he was short, skinny, and weak. The army wanted to select another soldier, but Dr. Abraham Erskine wanted Steve Rogers. Not because of his personal body shape but because of his personality. Once selected to become America’s first super soldier, he had to be genetically altered to become agile and stronger. This test was conducted by no other than Tony Stark's (Iron Man) father, Howard Stark. This storyline was created by Marvels famed Stan Lee. After Howard Stark genetically altered Steve Rogers, he became America's first super soldier and later became known as the First Avenger. In the 2011 hit movie Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America is a role model, a superhero, and one of the most patriotic characters conceived in comics.
During WWII, the Captain America comic featured scenes where our hero was depicted punching Adolf Hitler in the face. This served as a constant reminder of who he was, and what he stood for. Captain America's red, white, and blue costume represents the flag of the USA. His costume is an important factor in the effectiveness of his story. The red, white and blue is the most recognizable feature of the Captain America costume, not even factoring in his iconic shield! Captain America’s shield is his main source of offence and defense in the comics. Whether he’s throwing it like a boomerang to take out a group of baddies or holding it up to protect the weak from the forces of evil, Captain America’s shield is vital to the costume. WonderCostumes.com is proud to offer the full costume for children and adults, in different versions that include the most authentic and accurate elements. Captain America's costume was originally created by cartoonist Jack Kirby, but in the 2011 hit movie “Captain America: The first Avenger” the costume was re-designed by Anna B. Sheppard (Costume Creator) and featured a big star on the chest of our super hero. This star, the centerpiece of Captain America's costume has now become as iconic as his shield, and represents the unity of the 50 stars of the American flag. The fact that he keeps the star, even after all that he goes through, is very telling of his iron will to serve and protect the United States.
