WonderCostumes.com is eagerly awaiting, as is everyone else, one of Disney's most highly anticipated films, Aladdin, in live-action format and directed by Guy Ritchie, will hit the theaters May 24. Disney's Aladdin costumes for the new live action film will focus on the personality of the characters, the costume's practicality, and the colorful flair of the original cartoon characters: Aladdin, Jasmine, Jafar, the Sultan, and the Genie. It's been over 25 years since the cartoon Aladdin movie, which was a huge hit, and a major part of every child's life when all little girls wanted to wear Disney's Princess Jasmine costume, and little boys related to the mischievous pranks of the street rat of Agrabah! Costume accuracy is a key part of Aladdin, and every detail in Disney's Aladdin costume, Princess Jasmine's dress, the dark Jafar costume, and the Genie's costume all strive for the elusive achievement of realism and fantasy at the same time. Here's a glimpse:
Will Smith's Genie Costume in Aladdin
You ain't never had a friend like Genie! Robin William's Genie is unforgettable, and clearly a voiced role that suited his swift mind and bubbly personality. Even Will Smith admitted he had some big shoes to fill with the new Disney Aladdin film. However, the costume aspects of the 1992 film and Aladdin's Genie costume in particular, were cartoons and although colorful and on point for the character, Will Smith's Genie costume is CGI and we know fans don't forgive CGI inconsistencies but ... how wrong can you go with blue? In Disney's movie Aladdin full trailer we see Will Smith's Genie switch from being in his Genie form to taking the form of a human, and if you've seen the trailers, you'll see why fans are positively more intrigued than before. WonderCostumes.com is a big fan of Aladdin, and we are as anxiously awaiting the premiere of Aladdin as our costumes fans, many who will be looking for Halloween inspiration in the costumes of Disney's Aladdin, from Princess Jasmine's colorfully enriched outfits, to Jafar costume, the Sultan's frocks, and even the costume Hakim will be wearing. Naomi Scott's Princess Jasmine!
Naomi Scott's Princess Jasmine is the free-spirited, courageous, and kind princess that isn't afraid to confront her father- the Sultan, Jafar, or anyone else. In the new Aladdin, Eastern nobility played a big part in the fashion design of Princess Jasmine's costume rather than her classic costume from 1992. As portrayed by Naomi Scott, Disney's Princess Jasmine's outfit variety in the film are perfectly appropriate for the beautiful Princess of Agrabah. Just from the trailer we see the costumes Princess Jasmine wears, so there's no telling what other fashion jewels are in Princess Jasmine's wardrobe. The most iconic costume for Princess Jasmine is the teal and gold outfit that we also see in the 1992 film, and Princess Jasmine's teal costume and bountiful dark hair with interlaced teal ribbon could very well be the trend in girls Princess costumes this year. At WonderCostumes.com we have Disney's Jasmine's costume for toddlers, girls, and even an adult version, all with accessories like Jasmine's slippers, the purple and teal scepter, and the teal crown and teal gloves Naomi Scott's princess character wears in Aladdin. New this year is the Jasmine's wig for little girls. In all, everything the Princess of Agrabah needs to make a grand entrance, you can find at WonderCostumes.com.
Marwan Kenzari's Jafar!
Jafar is the Sultan's trusted advisor, and the second most powerful person in Agrabah. He answers only to the Sultan, Princess Jasmine's father. Disney's Jafar's costume in the new movie follows the original concept of dark and menacing frocks, matching the tones from the original animated film, including the heavy cape and the overpowering bejeweled turban. Accessorizing Jafar's costume is the cobra staff that was seen in both the special look and the full trailer, and which is a key element of the evil Jafar's costume, keeping the accuracy of the character's personality and original Disney's Jafar costume design.
Mena Massoud's Aladdin!
Aladdin is, of course, the main protagonist of the film. His character is that of a young man who has a lesson to learn. The story of Aladdin was attributed to the "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights" but, it was never in that collection! When the collection of stories was translated by Antoine Galland, he added the story of "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp," which was a Chinese story making Aladdin, the most famous story (not) in the One Thousand Arabian Nights! The moral of Aladdin's story is how he changes the way he feels about life, and love when he discovers the lamp and meets the Genie, who can grant him three wishes, and Princess Jasmine. Disney's Aladdins costume in the new film is a more practical concept, that nevertheless includes strong elements of his classic costume, in 1992. Aladdin's new costume has a vest, fez, and he wears a soft rumpled shirt that implies comfort. The casting of Mena Massoud for the role of Aladdin helped build the live-action scenes because he resembles so closely the cartoon character! With this Disney Aladdin film the transition from cartoon to live-action is as close as it gets to perfect, and the costumes worn by Mena Massoud as Aladdin are a treat to watch on the big screen, as well as to own!
There's a lot of hype surrounding the new Disney's Aladdin as it is one of the films Disney is reimagining this year, and it has taken a detailed approach towards the costumes and how they reflect the personality of these well-known characters of Agrabah. The classic costumes of Aladdin, Jasmine, the Genie, Jafar, and the Sultan, come to life on-screen and at WonderCotumes.com! Aladdin premieres across the nation on May 24, 2019, do you have your costume ready for show time?
