- The national day of Ireland, Saint Patrick’s Day is the celebration of the Irish Patron Saint (Paddy, for connoisseurs), which has become a beloved adopted although non-official holiday in American lore. March 17th is nowadays celebrated even among those of no Irish decent under the motto “be Irish for a day”. This is the green day, a color that represents the Irish, and is evocative of the lucky shamrock (a St. Patrick’s symbol).
